Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter.
If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up”. Daniel 3:16-18
It ain’t gonna happen. That’s what Hananiah, Azariah and Mishael were able to say to the king. Their conviction to worship the only true and living God would put their life in jeopardy. But, that’s what a conviction is, something worth dying for. They were fully resolved that God could, but might not rescue them. With that resolution came power to stand in the crucible of their day.
What are my convictions? Have I ever had to stand for them in this manner? What did it cost?
God, I want to be a man who stands for my convictions. Please give me the courage necessary, the grace to speak respectfully to those in authority, and resolve to face consequences when necessary.
