Compromise And Conflict

Then Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all his household, and his livestock and all his cattle and all his goods which he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to another land away from his brother Jacob.
For their property had become too great for them to live together, and the land where they sojourned could not sustain them because of their livestock.
So Esau lived in the hill country of Seir; Esau is Edom. Genesis 36:6-8

The Edomites (as they would come to be known) were descendants of Esau (Jacob’s brother). They separated from Jacob and as they grew in number, they appointed regional kings. The descendants of Edom would be continual enemies of the Israelites for ages to come. It is, as if, Esau would forever seek to regain what Jacob had- the stolen birthright. In Psalm 83, Esau’s descendants are listed three times as enemies of Israel. Because Esau compromised and intermarried with the tribes in Canaan, his descendants would be bound together by blood as enemies of Israel… and sadly they would suffer for it with continual conflict.

How do compromises in my life lead to needless suffering instead of blessing?

God, on this Thanksgiving Day, I am thankful for Your provision in my life- my lovely wife, parents, children and that cutie granddaughter. You have given me purpose, health, energy, passion, and plenty.
