Bragging Rights

bragging rightsThus says the Lord, “Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:23-24

In his lament over the disobedience of God’s people, Jeremiah declares the utter ruin that is coming upon them. He then disclosed the desire of God – that we would not boast about how smart we are, how strong and mighty, nor how rich we are… but rather, that we understand and know God. For He exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth. Oh, He delights in these. You could say, God has bragging rights, not us.

In what or whom do I boast, myself or God?

God, You really are full of lovingkindness. Thank you for hearing prayers and answering mightily. Would You continue to move and lead me and guide me. I want to be able to boast more and more that I understand You and know You. Thank you for revealing to me, Your Word, Your ways, and Your will.
