When they saw him from a distance and before he came close to them, they plotted against him to put him to death. They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer! Now then, come and let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits; and we will say, ‘A wild beast devoured him.’ Then let us see what will become of his dreams!” But Reuben heard this and rescued him out of their hands and said, “Let us not take his life.” Genesis 37:18-21
There are a lot of ‘Dream killers’ in the world. Joseph’s brothers wanted to literally kill him. Part of that was family dysfunction, but part of it was selfishness and failure to understand and seek out what God was doing. In life, when God gives us a dream, we should surround ourselves with encouraging dream builders and keep a distance from the dream killers. Reuben is the brother that exemplifies a person nearby who didn’t want to kill Joseph’s dream. If you look, there are some in your life too.
What dreams has God given me? Am I passionately pursuing them in spite of the dream killers?
God, I feel unfaithful at times about pursuing the dreams. And then again, I see You keeping them alive. I am grateful for the two on my mind right now. I have plans for one. Help me put a God-honoring plan together for the second. I want to fulfill what I believe You put in my heart and mind. Please lead and guide me today. Forgive my trespasses and fill me with Your Spirit.
