Behold, The Lord God Helps Me

help1I gave My back to those who strike Me,
And My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard;
I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting. Isaiah 50:6

Was Isaiah speaking of himself or describing the future suffering of the Messiah Jesus? This paints in my mind’s eye the picture of Jesus being whipped by the Roman soldiers and then being placed upon the cross and spit upon. How horrible. Yet, Isaiah also says ‘Behold, the Lord God helps Me’. Even though it felt like complete abandonment, God was near. His help would come as the Son of God was raised from the dead and now is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Do I give my back to those who strike me? Am I willing to suffer for the sake of others?

God, we are starting our day together and with pastor Chuck. Oh I thank you for his influence in my life, his example of godliness, and passion to seek and save the lost. Then, Lord as Maureen and I plan out the details of the family vacation, give us insight and wisdom to pick the right place to stay. The excitement is building in me. I hope the kids feel the same. And Lord God, I know You help me.
