So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.
As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.
Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.
The king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s personal service. Daniel 1:16-19
Sometimes kids don’t want to eat their vegetables. Here is one reason to start liking them. Daniel and his cohorts found themselves in the king’s personal service. They had been promoted. Why? They listened to their conscience and made a faith filled step based on integrity. They did it with respect for authority. God honored them and they now found themselves in a place of influence.
How about me? Am I listening to my conscience and to the Spirit of God? Am I respectful to those in authority?
God, as this day begins with a celebration of my friend Todd’s mom, help me say words that soothe their broken hearts. Help me point to You and the wonderful way Pat lived her faith.
