A Sympathetic High Priest

And no one takes the honor to himself, but receives it when he is called by God, even as Aaron was.
So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him,
“You are My Son, today I have begotten You”;
just as He says also in another passage,
“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 5:4b-6

Jesus fulfilled His great earthly calling, namely paying the penalty for our sins. He lives evermore to intercede on our behalf as our high priest forever. What this means for you and I is that not only our past sins forgiven, even the sins I might commit today will be forgiven as I humbly approach the throne of God anticipating my great advocate, Jesus, who will go before me in holiness appropriating the cleansing and forgiveness I require. He will do this for you too! Isn’t it good to know that He endured all temptations as we have, yet without sinning.

Have I discovered how wonderful it is to have a sympathetic high priest? Am I coming regularly before the throne of God, not in self confidence, but that I have a high priest begotten of God forever making intercession?

God, as this day begins, I am undeserving of Your great love and mercy expressed in Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. Please work within my heart, mind, soul and strength today. May I be useful in building up believers and the kingdom of God itself. Thank you for the blessings that flow upon my kids and family.
