A Spiritual Alarm Clock

I don’t always set my phone app as an alarm to wake me up. Only on days that I worry I won’t naturally wake up (which I tend to do). The apostle Paul gives us a sort of Spiritual Alarm Clock in his letter to the believers in Ephesus. Its a call to be light in the Lord. The way I lived could be described as “darkness”, but now I am to live a life of “light” which is characterized by goodness, righteousness and truth. All of these are preciously and sorely needed in our world today which lacks them. What guides me? Finding out (any one day or moment) what pleases the Lord. This singular one priority guides me to not just do what is good, right and of the truth but to be a light bearer to others. What a privilege!

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Ephesians 5:8-14 NASB

How can I be fully awake and alive today?

God, as this day begins- (in Switzerland), I pray that Christ (in all His fulness) would shine upon me. May I reach out and love someone in Your name. May it be a day with some beautiful expression of worship as well.
