Peter said, “Behold, we have left our own homes and followed You.”
And He said to them, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times as much at this time and in the age to come, eternal life.” Luke 18:28-30
Many people have a notion that heaven is (as they describe it)… “pie in the sky, bye and bye”! They joke that what you will miss out on so much in this life if you follow Jesus, but you will get rewarded in the next life. I have found it to be very different. While the cost to follow Jesus can be very great (it really depends on one’s circumstances, family, and culture), God rewards with slices of pie, here and now. That’s what Jesus promised the disciples… whatever you gave up, you will receive many times over ‘at this time’ and ‘in the age to come’, you get eternal life itself. Wow!
What have I left for the sake of Christ? What have I received in return?
Its all worth it! Lord Jesus, You are the pearl of great price worth any and all. What a life You’ve called me to. What a purpose I have to fulfill. Thank you for an adventure greater than I could imagine. The slices of pie are sweet and fulfilling.
