Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For since He Himself was tempted in that which He has suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted. Hebrews 2:17-18
A priest is one who intercedes before God on behalf of another. Jesus is our high priest. He is ‘high’ because he makes intercession for all, not just some. One of the reasons he came and was found in the likeness of a man, made lower than the angels for a time, was that he might relate to us with full understanding of what it is to be a man. Therefore, he would be both merciful and faithful in all things pertaining to God as he makes intercession for us.
How have I appropriated the mercy of God in my life? Am I one to judge too quickly without having understood another man’s perspective?
God, thank you for this day. What a joy it was on Thanksgiving yesterday! Thank you for Jesus, my model in all things and the only One who is worthy of praise and honor and glory. Your amazing plan of redemption is altogether wonderful… I marvel at who Jesus is and His display of love. How did you think this all up? May I walk as He would walk today.
