Blessed? Yes, but How?

You hear the word “bless”, “God bless you”, and of course in the South “bless her heart. We have a saying in our church “we are blessed, to be a blessing!” So just what does it mean to be blessed and particularly blessed by God? To be blessed is a bit difficult to define, but let me try: it means to be sublimely happy or possessed with an abiding joy and peace. I think the feelings that accompany true blessing are a bit elusive today because we’ve reduced blessing to material prosperity. In his letter to the believers in Ephesus, the apostle Paul reminded them that they were blessed with every spiritual blessing because of their relationship with Jesus Christ. The foremost blessing was that God chose them to be adopted into the forever family of God, participants in His kingdom, heirs of all things and able to be personally transformed in holiness. Now that is the blessed life.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. Ephesians 1:3-4 NASB

What spiritual blessings are yet to be appropriated in my life? Have I neglected anything God desires in my life?

God, as this day begins- I am so grateful for life in Christ. I have been truly blessed with spiritual blessings and earthly beside. When I consider Your choosing, I wonder as the Psalmist did… “who am I that You would think of me”. Yet, You have and do. May I walk in love, directed by Your Spirit as I reach out and love others in Your name. I have needs, You know them very well. Meet my needs as I do others. Bless my lovely wife, children, friends, and especially Ubong as he awaits a release from detention.
