Tattered Nets

I give a fair amount of time to introspection. I am aware of my shortcomings, especially in this busy season of life that has significant demands and challenges. I take to heart the closing words of the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth who adds a fascinating phrase “mend your ways”. The word picture is one of a person mending their nets. If I am a fisher of men, its worth taking time to mend the nets of my character and behavior, right? That’s why prayer is beneficial. Sure, I talk to God, but He also impresses upon me where my nets are tattered and in need of repair. Then, the Holy Spirit assists with wisdom and strength to transform the holes in my nets to strong evidence of His grace and glory.

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice, mend your ways, be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. 2 Corinthians 13:11-14 NASB

How can I participate today in what God is doing to mend my ways (life)? What grace can I extend to others who are also sitting on the shore mending their ways?

God, as this day begins- I am grateful for the universal Christian call to be ‘fishers of men’ and to extend the life saving message of Jesus’ life, death, resurrection, and purpose for our lives. Continue please to work in my toward holiness, completeness, and fill the gaping holes within my tattered nets, so that I might serve with you with a humble confidence and be a catcher of men.
