Transferable Comfort

My life thus far has been relatively absent of great distress and suffering. Oh, sure there has been a bit. I have been with others who have faced the unimaginable (loss of a child, cancer, homelessness). In times of great pain, God promises comfort beyond human understanding. And once we’ve received that from Him, we (in the future) are able to comfort others. I think that is why only Christian suffering makes senses because the comfort we receive is transferrable. I have seen how two moms who didn’t know each other lost a child can meet and discover that both are in that tragic club of parents, and without a word transfer great comfort.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.  2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NASB

Who in my circle of influence needs comfort right now? How has God comforted me in my afflictions?

God, as this day begins- I am reminded of this great promise. May those who are hurting today, find You and the comfort and peace they need to face the difficulties in this world. Thank you that seasons come and go.
