The apostle Paul emphasized love above all. When I look at diamonds, I think it is the many facets that what makes them shine. In the same way, when I look at love, its not just ‘one thing’ that shines. It’s the many expressions of the very nature of God as modeled by Jesus Christ. If the goal of the Christian life is “Christlikeness” (to be like Him in word, thought and deed)- then the greatest evidence would be the reflection of God’s love in us. Love stands above beautiful rhetoric or song, preaching and predicting, knowledge of mysteries, faith so strong as to move mountains, generosity and martyrdom. Of course, when combined with these, love is a witness to the world!

Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NASB

How do I measure the degree to which I am loving? Which facets of love could use some polishing by God?

God, as this day begins- Your love is without bounds to me and I am grateful. Who can I reach out and love in Your name today? As I make decisions, set my steps and calendar, prioritize projects, may love be my guide. Thank you that when my faith becomes sight and my hope of heaven is a reality, love will remain.
