I see a lot of these little plastic Jesus figurines in various places these days. They are kind of cute reminders. I don’t think they are idols, just reminders that we have a God who loves us, a Savior who purchased us, and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. I once had many idols in my life that led me away from God, not to Him. Isn’t it great that God has imparted to us (by the Holy Spirit), gifts to help others know God and enjoy Him. That same Spirit allows us to acknowledge first and foremost that Jesus is the maximum authority in our lives and that He is revealing Himself (and communicating) to us daily.
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be unaware. You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 NASB
When did I first acknowledge Jesus as Lord? Who am I helping to find Him?
God, as this day begins- and I return from Reynosa, Mexico… I am so happy to be friends with people here making an eternal difference for You by sharing the gospel and meeting practical needs of people with the extravagant love of God. May each be encouraged by our visit and strengthened for the work of ministry. May each use the gifts provided in us by the Spirit of God to accomplish Your will in the world. May people see Jesus in them and me as well, wherever we go.
