I remember when my buddy David got his license to drive. He is six months older than me. My dad let us drive an MG sports car home from orange county. The feeling of freedom was amazing as we cruised on Beach Blvd. and then the freeway (hoping some girls would take notice). That feeling pales in comparison to the freedom that came when I put my faith and trust in Jesus. He has made me new and freed me from the penalty of sin, power of sin (so long as I allow the Spirit of God to control my life), and one day- I will be free from the presence of sin. That’s the freedom the apostle Paul wrote about.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, this person is a new creation; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come…Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:17, 20-21 NASB
How have I changed since Christ came into my life? What joy and freedom accompanies my life right now? How grateful am I for the enormous sacrifice made on my behalf?
God, as this Holy week begins- I am reminded of Your love and grace. I am prayerful for all who need a born-again experience and to come into a personal relationship with You through Jesus’ atoning sacrifice. Draw each to Yourself. I pray that Easter (Resurrection Sunday) will be wonderful and bring about freedom for anyone and everyone in bondage to sin.
