I have sixty three years of experience (yes, I am old… well at least older). I have some skills (not saying I can hack a canoe out of a tree). And I have some gifts (the Bible calls this charisma). A spiritual gift is bestowed by God to amplify a natural ability or to supplement a weakness so that we can benefit others and the common good. In other words, when I use what God has given me (my experience, talent, and spiritual gifts) to build others up in their faith or to meet practical needs; God is glorified. Tomorrow I am going to pause and think about the gifts He has given me and the list provided by the apostle Paul.

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be unaware. You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led. Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1 Corinthians 12:1-7 NASB

What has God given me that I can give away? And who needs it, most?

God, as this day begins- I have one gift right now- time, the precious commodity. May You lead and guide today so that what is eternal is attended to and what is temporary remains in its proper place. May You shine through me as I use the giftedness imparted by the Holy Spirit.
