This morning I am thinking about two icons of Christian ministry- pastor John MacArthur and James Dobson. They both left this earthly dwelling for heaven in recent weeks. Both revered the Lord, shared the gospel and love of God, yet warned people of His judgment. It seems that people in our day no longer any fear of the Lord. The same was true when the prophet Zephaniah warned the people of southern Israel (Judah) about their idolatry and God’s judgment to come. He (God) gave them an opportunity to repent, but forecast that surrounding people likely would not. John MacArthur once remarked “the history of the world, is the judgment of the world”. Look at Assyria, Ashdod, Gaza, and the Ammonites and Moabites and Cush. Zephaniah (and John MacArthur) were right!
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land,
you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the Lord’s anger. Zephaniah 2:3 NIV
What attitude do I find in myself? One of humility and hunger for God and righteousness… or that of selfish idolatry?
God, as this day begins- I thank You for the salvation and life found in Jesus Christ. I choose today to seek You with humility. I desire to walk in righteousness. May I be found in a shelter You provide and preserved from the day of Your anger and wrath upon the world that has rejected You.
