I cannot count all the times that God, in His mercy, God has spared me from my own mistakes and even the severity of His discipline that I deserve. I try my best, when I become aware of my stumbling and shortcomings, to try to seek God and not run and hide. I wonder if that humble spirit assuages God’s anger toward my sin and opens His heart of affection?

I wonder how God deals today with the problem is national sin? The observation “the history of the world is the judgment of the world”, is pretty accurate. Nations rise and fall because, they either fall from within by their own corruption, or God, in His justice, deals with them. When He withdraws His blessing from a nation, it is a frightful time. But, God has always been able to “hide his” from that very wrath. I have found that one of God’s greatest strengths is the restraint of His power. Zephaniah foretold of the utter destruction of the land of Judah that would occur because of God’s judgment. He too knew that God could spare those devoted to Him. He wrote “Perhaps you (devoted ones) will hidden on the day of the Lord’s anger”.

Seek the Lord,
All you humble of the earth
Who have practiced His ordinances;
Seek righteousness, seek humility.
Perhaps you will remain hidden
On the day of the Lord’s anger. Zephaniah 2:3 NASB

God, as this day begins- I pray for Your grace and mercy to follow me all the days of my life. I also ask that You see the good desires and acts within our country and not just the evil. Thank you rescued righteous Lot in his day and can rescue the humble and righteous in ours. Please give me a ever growing capacity to minister to those suffering the loss of loved ones.
