Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail. Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery and swear falsely, and offer sacrifices to Baal and walk after other gods that you have not known, then come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—that you may do all these abominations? Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” declares the Lord. Jeremiah 9:9-11
When Jesus tipped the table of the money changers in the temple he said “my father’s house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves”. He was quoting Jeremiah who chastised the God’s people who were self-deceived thinking they had safety in His temple, not realizing that true safety comes from an obedient life. They were living lives contrary to God and hoping they would be protected by God.
How is my integrity? Am I deceiving myself in any way? Do I think that just because I am called a Christian, go to church worship services and work at a church that I am in a right relationship with God? No. All these are good indicators, but in my heart of hearts I have made a commitment in love to follow Jesus. Each day, I am in communication with God. He directs me by prompting me and placing within my mind pictures and words and feelings to move me His direction. I obey.
God, I confess that I am less than perfect, not always whole-hearted, and sometimes disobedient. I am grateful, by Your Spirit, You make me aware and empower me to change. Today, with all clarity, I keep my trust in You and look forward to carrying out the wonderful things You have planned.
