I haven’t been everywhere and done everything I want to in this life. I haven’t “arrived” with Christlike character reflected perfectly either. But, when I survey the blessings in my life, I marvel at God’s faithfulness. He placed beautiful pictures in my mind of where He was leading- for instance, when I was younger I saw in my mind’s eye what life could be like with my lovely bride (even before we were married). I sensed a call to a combination of ministry on staff within a church while at certain seasons developing marketplace ideas and businesses. I felt a need to write some booklets and I have. I was inspired by my two brothers to learn and practice law and I remember the conversation with my wife and drive together to register for law school. Every one of these began with a small decision and action. I do not despise the “day of small beginnings” for they lead to the fulfillment of God-given dreams. I wonder what dreams God has ahead.
Zechariah the prophet understood that God desired his people to rebuild a temple. God gave him the dream or vision that Zerubbabel (an enigmatic regional governor of Judah) would have God’s power and blessing to do just that. So Zechariah faithfully supported Zerubbabel and encouraged others to do their part. The rebuilding began slow and almost unnoticeable. It was miraculously completed in the year 516 BCE.
So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6 NIV “Who dares despise the day of small things (“beginnings”), since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone[a] in the hand of Zerubbabel?” v10
God, as this day begins- Thank you that You are faithful even when I am faithless. I am marveling at what life is these days. I have a sense there is more ahead. I am praying for my friend Peter who has been so faithful to you over the years. Would you give (by Your Spirit) exert the power to answer his prayers. I pray the money owed would be released and promptly paid and the promised investors would be moved to sign agreements. May the days of small beginnings now become fulfilled dreams.
