How does God reveal Himself in the world? Through His people primarily. As believers, you and I are his witnesses in the world. We are the letters of the Bible read by all men. At times we may be an embarrassment and other times a shining example of Jesus Christ and His redemptive work in our lives. After all we are not perfect pieces of art on display in a museum, we are more like cracked pots with a bright light shining from within revealing a God of love and light.
A rather enigmatic man named Zerubbabel was instructed by the prophet Haggai to initiate the rebuilding of God’s temple. Giving God’s kingdom and temple the priority of life resulted in blessings from above. Today, when believers focus on building the spiritual kingdom of God (their own holiness) and sharing the gospel with others and inviting them into a repentant relationship with the God who made them- blessings follow! And we then become a sign to others putting God’s stamp of approval on what is good and right in the world. We are his signet ring!
Now give careful thought to this from this day on—consider how things were before one stone was laid on another in the Lord’s temple. When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty. I struck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not return to me,’ declares the Lord. From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the Lord’s temple was laid. Give careful thought: Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. ‘From this day on I will bless you.’ Haggai 2:15-19 ‘and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” v23b NASB
God, as this day begins- I pray I might reflect the goodness and glory of Christ Jesus in every situation and in word, thought and deed. I see Your manifold blessings all around and I am grateful and humbled that You are so generous with me.
