Savior and King

I began to read Matthew’s gospel account of Jesus (the Messiah). Ever wonder why he begins with a detailed account of Jesus genealogy? Matthew gives Jesus’ genealogy to prove that He is the rightful Messiah, the heir of David’s throne, the fulfillment of God’s promises to Abraham, and the climax of Israel’s history—all while highlighting God’s surprising grace. And when you compare it with Luke’s genealogy, it’s fascinating: Matthew traces downward (Abraham → David → Jesus), focusing on Jesus’ royal and Jewish credentials. Luke traces upward (Jesus → Adam → God), highlighting Jesus as the Savior of all humanity, not just Israel. Together, they paint a fuller picture: Matthew says, “Here is your promised King,” and Luke says, “Here is the Savior for the whole world.”

Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah. Matthew 1:17 NIV

Which has been the most comforting to me… that I have placed my faith in “the promised King” or “the Savior of the world”?

God, as this day begins- I am amazed and grateful that I have pledged my allegiance to the Son of the living God- Jesus! May He work in me and through me for Your glory.
