I have been reading the words of Judean prophets from the 6th century BCE. There is a common theme- restoration! The prophets are inviting and commanding God’s people to return to Him and rebuild the temple of worship. What a great theme for us today. Of course, God does not dwell in buildings made with hands today, He dwells in the hearts of those who have put their faith and trust in Jesus. The invitation for each of us is to fill our days and hours with worship (in how we work, relate, give, and bless). Imagine how wonderful it is when that’s our goal and motivation. Ultimately, God’s Word and His ways is what will last. Jesus reminded us: “Now this is eternal life, to know the Father and the Son whom He has sent”.

This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the Lord Almighty. Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.’ But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. Where are your ancestors now? And the prophets, do they live forever? But did not my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, overtake your ancestors? Zechariah 1:2-6 NASB

God, as this day begins- I pray for those who have known You and walked closely in obedience to Your commands, that they would return to You and that You would restore the joy of their salvation. For me, may I today be useful in your kingdom as I reach and love people in Your name. Thank you that You’ve left the pathway to repentance open and clear.
