In The Wilderness

Yesterday I was stunned to hear about the murder of a young 31 year old firebrand advocate for free speech, debate, and most importantly the gospel of Jesus Christ. Charlie Kirk started visiting college campuses back in 2012. He was “in the wilderness” proclaiming at first conservative values and principles with very little attention. More recently, he proclaimed the life changing message of Christianity. In a similar way, John the Baptist proclaimed a message of the coming Messiah. Then, Jesus came! Both were murdered. But, twelve rose up in Jesus’ place. May the same be true for Charlie Kirk.

Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord,
Make His paths straight!’” Matthew 3:1-3 NASB

What courage am I displaying when it comes to preaching the gospel? How passionately do I care about young people who are lost and without hope in this world?

God, as this day begins- it continues in mourning. I am heartbroken. I pray for Charlie Kirk’s children and wife Erika. Strengthen and comfort each one. There is a part of me, O Lord that wants justice. May I set that aside trusting that You are a God of justice. Vengeance is Yours. I will simple proclaim with courage the message of the Savior and love for my country.
