God can be trusted “Even if”, He allows or causes difficult and suffering to come my way. That’s a really lofty thought, isn’t it. Almost sounds like blind loyalty to a God I cannot see. “Even if”? Am I really going to trust God, even if He doesn’t rescue me at times? Yep. Why? Because He has so often rescued me and I am undeserving of the goodness and grace He has bestowed upon me. And so, for those who endure tragedy and heartache, listen. God see you. He always has. His eye (the Bible says) is upon the worthless sparrow and of course He watches over you. Its the personal relationship in prayer through His Son Jesus that has made all the difference for me. Lecturer and radio personality, Dennis Prager was right when he said “if there isn’t a life after this one, this life makes no sense at all”. He, like me- we are assured there is a life to come. Btw, that’s why I wrote the booklet: Blinkity, Blink, What happens in the Life to Come?
Habakkuk the prophet found himself in despair over the coming devastation to his people and land. He comforted himself with the words “Even if”. If all of the wonderful food in life were decimated and gone, if all of the sustenance was taken away… there was something that couldn’t be taken, his personal relationship with God (which forever will triumph over earthly woes). So, his resolve was to rejoice in God who allowed Habakkuk’s spirit to soar in spite of the circumstances. He described that inwardly he was leaping from rock to rock on the top of a mountain like a sure footed and graceful deer! We can too… what’s your “Even if”?
Even if the fig tree does not blossom,
And there is no fruit on the vines,
If the yield of the olive fails,
And the fields produce no food,
Even if the flock disappears from the fold,
And there are no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will triumph in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like deer’s feet,
And has me walk on my high places. Habakkuk 3:17-19 NASB
God, as this day begins- what a mature and beautiful example of faith in the midst of the fire. Thank you for the example of Habakkuk. I pray that as I face the simple difficulties that present themselves today, I will be available to pastor, shepherd and comfort others. With the distress in the world that looms so large, I pray for people to be supernaturally protected by you and the faith of believers to be expressed in love to all those around. Oh how comforting it is that there is a life beyond this one wherein righteousness reigns, love is the oxygen, and truth prevails. You have given me “hinds feet on high places”… when I walk in faith.
