I know there exists an enemy of my soul. Jesus said so. I don’t think there is a demon under every rock. Most of my spiritual problems arise from my own flesh and desires. Temptations come in many forms, don’t they. Ever ponder at the pool of popularity and desire to be liked and adored? Ever yearn for more money so you could enjoy pleasures, an expensive meal or special experiences? Ever want complete security and safety? These are temptations when they displace God as the object of our worship. I find it comforting to know that Jesus was tempted in all things like me, yet without sin. He was confronted by the enemy face to face. Yet, He prevailed.
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. Matthew 4:10 NIV
What temptations to compromise my faith am I facing now? What is the origin,… fleshly desires in me or the enemy of my soul?
God, as this day begins- I am grateful that the Bible, the Word of God, the teachings and example of Jesus have the answer to the temptations I face. To worship You in the ultimate safeguard to temptation and pathway to blessings and joy. I may go hungry for some things desired, but I will be satisfied by hungering and thirsting for righteousness. This I have found to be true. And You, O Lord have been my strength, shield, provider and friend. Nothing beats that.
