Weak Knees

weak kneesStrengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way;
say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come, he will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution he will come to save you. Isaiah 25:3-4

The writer of the book of Hebrews borrows language from Isaiah’s prophecy about the restoration of Israel. Interesting, that much of what God’s people experienced physically in their lives, mirrors our spiritual reality in Christ. Hebrews 12:12-13 says ‘Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.’ Notice the parallel. Our discipline, like that of Israel’s results in restoration and healing. God is so good!

In what ways do I need my hands strengthened and knees steadied? Is there any fear in my life? Do I realize that God is not coming to bring vengeance on me, but rather my enemies?!

Lord, what a great reminder of Your love today. Its assuring to know that You are for me. And the discipline I experience is for my good, always born out of Your love and concern. As this day begins, please use the words of my mouth in a way to edify those who hear. Would you again meet the great needs of people and ministry around me and through me.
