Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:1-5
On of the reasons my friend Peter and I are such good friends is that he has been such a blessing to my children. I will never forget the days when he came to our house and helped Kai beat every level of Super Mario Bros., and to finally face and defeat Iggy Koopa to win the game. These and other expressions of love ot my son, let my know that he loved me. The Bible says ‘everyone who loves the father loves his child as well’. There are deep Spiritual blessings and implications in this truth. On a practical level, in my ministry at Crossroads School, every teacher, facilitator, and staff member does the same thing… we love parents by loving their children. And what a blessing it is. One note again about Jesus, we show our love to God by obeying his commands and as I have said before, we find out they are enjoyable to keep, they are not a bummer. And in the end, Victory is ours!
Does my life demonstrate a love for Jesus? How do I feel about God’s commands? Am I in harmony with Him and do I feel joy in keeping them, or have I not yet been conformed to His image, wherein I love His commands, even as Psalm 119:5 says “Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees!”
God, today I want to walk in Your ways. I will exalt Jesus Christ, the Son of God in my heart and in my obedience to Your decrees. By the power of Your Holy Spirit in me, make every word that proceeds from my mouth holy. Show my how to love, even as You have love me through Your Son.
