Upholding God’s Word

upholdingThen the messenger who went to summon Micaiah spoke to him saying, “Behold now, the words of the prophets are uniformly favorable to the king. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.” But Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, what the Lord says to me, that I shall speak.” 1 Kings 22:13-14

Micaiah the prophet stood alone in his declaration of defeat. The other 400 prophets predicted victory, but Micaiah was not swayed by the king or popular opinion. I look around the world today and see a great need for Micaiah. In national issues of morality we need someone to express God’s word on the value of the life of the unborn, Jesus’ definition of marriage, the dangers of drug use, and so much more. The crazy consideration of so many leaders is to worry ‘what people will think’, instead of ‘what has God said’! Did you know that our founding fathers worried that God’s hand of protection would be removed from our nation if we strayed from His Word and ways?

Do I understand God’s Word? Am I a seeker of truth and wisdom? Am I able to speak truth to power?

God, please help our nation. I know we continue to sin in some terrible ways. Some of our laws are unjust and advocate for evil. Lord, cause some righteous people to be raised to positions of power to make a difference. I worry about our judicial appointments that are blind and operate on their own feelings. We need you more that ever. God, help me be one who doesn’t back down from the truth of Your Word.
