scriptureBut as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:14-17

Paul reminds Timothy of the importance of knowing scripture. For Timothy, that would have been what we call the Old Testament of the Bible. The Bible reveals how God has interacted with man, predicted the coming Messiah, and prescribes how to live a godly life. Timothy had immersed himself in the Bible since he was child. He had the advantage of a believing mother and grandmother who taught him… and then as an young man, the apostle Paul took him under his wing.

Who has taught me the holy scriptures? Several people! And it has been an advantage to learn from people like Greg Laurie, John Macarthur, Tim Coop, Chuck Booher, Tony Allmoslecher and others. I thank God for all of them. At my age, the bigger question would be, who is under my wing?

God, I thank you for Holy Scriptures. They have made me wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. I still remember how wonderful it was to first read about Jesus and to fall in love with utter amazement. He makes me anticipate what life in Your presence will actually be, God. As this day begins, would you do the two big miracles on my mind. Thank you for waking me early and giving me a clear path to follow today. Holy Spirit, thank you for peace in the midst of uncertainty.
