Strange Fire

strange fireNow Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. And fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them, and they died before the Lord. Then Moses said to Aaron, It is what the Lord spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, and before all the people I will be honored.’ Leviticus 10:1-3

Two of the sons of Aaron offered “strange fire”. Whatever this was, it was outside of God’s plan. They paid a heavy price for their unholiness. God does deal sternly with his leaders. He did then and He does now.

Is there any “strange fire” I am offering to the Lord? Is there anything that I have ‘just made up’ and called it acceptable worship?

God, I thank You that You have shown us what is required… to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with You (Micah 6:8). Today, may the words of my mouth and the work of my hands be acceptable to You as I offer up myself in faith, walking in accordance with Your Word and Jesus’ way.
