But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:11-12
I love the charge that Timothy receives from Paul “Fight the good fight”. People fight for all kinds of things that don’t really make or that make an eternal difference. But, what does is righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Why? Because this represents the fruit of the Spirit of God at work in our lives. Since the goal of the Christian life is Christ-likeness, being like Jesus in word, thought and deed is what really matters. That’s why he says “take hold of the eternal life to which your were called”.
How about me? Am I arguing about silly things like genealogies? Or am I focused on eternal qualities growing in my life that reflect the Spirit of God is at work in me?
Lord Jesus, as I begin a new day, I want to do it with You leading and guiding me. I want to pause and hear from You… Thank you for Your great love. Let’s fight the good fight together.
