My Underestimation Needs Enlightenment

enlightenmentI pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:18-19

After describing God’s amazing redemptive plan for mankind (which was purposed before the world began), Paul describes joy and his constant prayer for the believers in Ephesus. He wanted God to enlighten them so they would know three things; the hope of their calling (what God aspires them to become), the full value of the inheritance they have now that they belong to God and are co-heirs with Jesus Christ, and also the power available to every believer that is equivalent to the power that raised Jesus from the dead.

Am I living each day in a manner worthy of my calling, appreciative of my inheritance (based on my adoption as God’s son), and demonstrating the power that comes from Him? I would have to confess I am underestimating what God has given me and what is available to me.

Lord Jesus, You made all this possible. Enlighten me by Your indwelling Spirit so that I walk in a way fully recognizing what I have in You. Forgive me for not living up to that which You have called me. May today be a day that I am enlightened.
