This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7
Years ago I heard pastor Juan Carlos Ortiz say that light is a metaphor in the Bible for love, not knowledge. This was challenging because it made me re-evaluate whether expressing love or gaining knowledge was the paramount pursuit of my spiritual life. Fortunately, it really isn’t an either or proposition, its a both / and. I can grow in the knowledge of God and the love of God.
How is my balance? Am I heavy in knowledge and light in love? Or vice-versa? I believe I am growing in both.
God, today I pray it may be both. May I worship you in my mind and my expressions of love.
