They said, “We see plainly that the Lord has been with you; so we said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between you and us, and let us make a covenant with you, that you will do us no harm, just as we have not touched you and have done to you nothing but good and have sent you away in peace. You are now the blessed of the Lord.’”
Then he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
In the morning they arose early and exchanged oaths; then Isaac sent them away and they departed from him in peace. Genesis 26:28-31

When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Proverbs 16:7

Peace is a good thing. Isaac could not find a place to settle his people. Abimilech and the Philistines kept moving him further and further, even after the effort he went to in digging wells. Eventually, he found a place and prospered in Beersheba. Whether out of fear, or recognition that God was with Isaac, Abimilech came to make peace. This was a good season. There would be a a long history that would ensue of bitterness and battles between their descendants. But for this season, there was peace. Blessed are the peacemakers. We should enjoy the times of peace with our enemies, sometimes its heaven sent. But, be wise, our enemies will eventually strike back. That’s why its our aim to please the Lord.

Am I first and foremost committed to Him? Am I praying for peace where it can be found? Am I contentious without reason?

God, as this day begins, I pray for Your blessing of peace. I am aware I have detractors who distort what I am about. Would you work in their lives in good and great ways. Meanwhile, let me not shrink back from godliness for fear of others. When I am with You, I am always a majority. May my thoughts and ways be pleasing in Your sight.
