Whatever Is Not Of Faith

Now the angel of the Lord found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur. He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from and where are you going?” And she said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.” Then the angel of the Lord said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself to her authority.” Moreover, the angel of the Lord said to her, “I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count.” Genesis 16:7-10

The Bible says that “whatever is not of faith, is sin” Romans 14:23. God showed His great care and love for Hagar. She was mistreated by Sarai who tried to script God’s plan in a way that ended up causing her to despise her one time friend and handmaid. Abram disengaged from the problem and let his wife harshly mistreat Hagar. All of these actions were due to a lack of faith and belief that God would fulfill His promise to give them a child.

Do I manipulate God’s plan? Or, am I patient and trusting enough to allow His promises to unfold in due time?

God, as this day begins, I will wait and watch and act in accordance with what You have promised. I know You to be faithful in all things. Help me be likewise.
