Understanding, Loyalty, and Integrity

A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water,
But a man of understanding draws it out.
Many a man proclaims his own loyalty,
But who can find a trustworthy man?
A righteous man who walks in his integrity—
How blessed are his sons after him. Proverbs 20:5-7

Wise king Solomon observed the world and articulated both man’s problem and God’s wisdom. In these short couplets he reminds us that there are those who can help us understand what is deep within our own heart- they draw it out and help us articulate what is only a vague picture in our mind and heart. He warns that we often over-promise and under-deliver… and that a trustworthy man is rare. Lastly, he tells us that our legacy matters and one based on integrity serves our children well!

In what ways am I developing in the areas of integrity, trustworthiness, and insight? Who would value me as a friend?

God, as this day begins I think first about so many friends and acquaintances who are struggling with health issues and pain. Oh, please meet them where they are with encouragement and healing. Give them unique ability to endure the pain and wait for recovery. Provide in ways they couldn’t expect, but realize its You. Surround them with family. Help me be a blessing to someone today.
