Truth + Myth = A Bad Mixture

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 2 Timothy 4:3-5

Paul foresaw a day when Christians would not listen any longer to sound doctrine. Instead they would desire to mix in ‘myths’ that make them feel better about themselves, the world, and the future. But living life by truth and error is a bad mixture in the end because we will not stand when persecution arises. History is filled with re-canters (those who renounced their faith) when difficulty comes. Its better to live in reality holding the promises of God and facing the problems of today.

Years ago, I heard a good working definition for True and Truth- True = that which agrees with the facts. Truth = that which agrees with final reality. That’s been very helpful to me.

Have I added myths to my world view and belief system? Do I face my problems in a real way? Do I value the truth and God’s revelation of Himself in Christ Jesus- is The Truth.

God, as this day begins I need You and Your Word. Please give me the energy to go the distance, since night school ends at 9:45. Thank you for the joy of learning. Help me accomplish the talks ahead with grace and truth. Sift my thinking for error and myths and help me live by the truth.
