The Good Things To Come

For the Law, since it has only a shadow of the good things to come and not the very form of things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually year by year, make perfect those who draw near. Hebrews 10:1

Have you ever had a perfect date? Every bit of the conversation was perfect. The place was beautiful, the food just right? Life in Christ and particularly the freedom from the influence of sin is like that. Life under the law is not. In Christ, we experience greater and greater degrees of freedom from guilt and shame (our conscience is freed). As good as the law is… it is just a mere shadow of the good thing to come when we are in His presence.

Maybe the good thing to come has arrived in part. Of course, when we are there (in God’s presence, in a new body) the fullness of that good thing will be ours… a right and perfected relationship with God and others (without sin or consciousness of it) in a place that accurately is described as paradise.

Am I living in the shadows and relating to God by keeping of the law? Or am I walking in the Spirit and fulfilling the law nearly effortlessly?

God, as this day begins- I am anticipating living more and more ‘in the Spirit’, controlled by You from the inside out, filled with joy, power, self-control and a desire to please You. I lay down my will and accept Yours. For in You in pure delight- for You know me best. Thank you for the bit of paradise here on earth. Would You continue to bless my wife, Kai, Kasey, Stella, Carter & Kennedy Bear and their household. Please have Your hand of safety and blessing upon my daughter Eden and Case and their home. And of course, guard this house and fill it with joy and blessing (even as You do) ministering to me, Maureen, Keanu, Kaenan, Steven, Raelena and Mariah.

Jonathan Edwards had a way of looking inside himself. When his feelings (sense of quiet and calm) bothered him… he endeavored to know why. Resolution #35. “Resolved, whenever I so much question whether I have done my duty, as that my quiet and calm is thereby disturbed, to set it down, and also how the question was resolved.” Dec. 18, 1722.
