Pure Heart, Clean Hands

The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord;
He turns it wherever He wishes.
Every man’s way is right in his own eyes,
But the Lord weighs the hearts.
To do righteousness and justice
Is desired by the Lord more than sacrifice. Proverbs 21:1-4

Solomon makes three wise observations. First, he says if you want to change your bosses heart on a matter, you ought to pray and ask God to do it. Second, remember that only God truly knows another person’s heart. Lastly, simple obedience to what is right is more important to God than coming to Him later with a sacrifice to cover wrongdoing. Think about how freeing it is to live this way. If you can’t persuade a person in authority- pray for them. Check you own heart before God and then be assured your ways are right. Be a humble obedient person who seeks justice and find favor with God.

How much time to I spend anguishing over what other’s should or should not do? Do I spend more time praying for people in authority or trying to persuade them?

God, as this day begins- what fun is ahead! I pray that I might encourage someone and make an eternal difference. I pray for those people around me with great responsibility. Please give them wisdom. Meet them in their roles and uplift them and draw them close to Your heart and mind. Use me to inspire others as I strive to live a life of obedience to You and Your Holy Word. Now, as Dr. Laura used to say “Let’s go take on the day”!
