Not A Zero Sum Game

There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more,
And there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want.
The generous man will be prosperous,
And he who waters will himself be watered.
He who withholds grain, the people will curse him,
But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. Proverbs 11:24-26

Some people feel like life is a win/lose proposition. If I am to win, you must lose. Sometimes that’s true. But, when it comes to generosity, its not a zero sum game. If I give to others, I won’t lose. Solomon pointed out that there is a phenomena wherein the one who scatters (gives away), increases all the more. What? How does that work? Supernaturally! Because God is involved in our lives and He brings new opportunities that we could never acquire on our own. Those that hold too tightly or feel that withholding grain is a risk will be cursed.

What am I holding onto too tightly? How have I obeyed God’s promptings to give to others?

God, as this day begins, I thank you that its Veteran’s Day- a day where we recognize that service, matters. Giving of oneself counts in your economy. Help my wife and I continue to be generous. We know what we have comes from Your hand.
