Love What God Loves

But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us. 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15

God changed my affections. What I used to like and love are not so important to me today. Over time, believers will love what God loves and hate what He hates. The apostle Paul loved others believers, especially those in Thessaloniki. Why? Because they were chosen of God for salvation. That salvation was evident by their sanctification which was effected by the Spirit of God in them and their continued exercise of faith in God and His truth (gospel). What was ahead for them? They would gain the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. I’m not altogether sure what that entails, but I am glad that’s ahead for me as well.

Am I still clinging to misplaced affections for worldly pleasures or idols?

God, as this day begins, continue to change my mind, heart and affections. Show me afresh that Your ways and Your will are best. I do thank you for ‘the brethren’- those believers around the world that have decided to follow Jesus. May we all gain the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ.
