But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. 2 Timothy 3:1-5
I am giving up watching the news during my 40 days of fasting. I plan to become a more peaceful man… Lol! Have you noticed that so much of the news is the salacious and ugly part of humanity? The apostle Paul warned Timothy that in the ‘last days’, it would be pretty bad and unbearable. As I look around, I see that we very well could be living in those last days. The gospel of Jesus is needed more today than ever before. Let’s be one’s who share the good news.
How would others and God see me? Am I consumed with self-love, getting my own way, pride and the list of sins that mark the last days? Or, am I submitting myself to the control of the Holy Spirit hourly and daily to do a transforming work in me? How’s it actually going?
God, as this day begins- I am grateful that You really are redeeming me and adding Christlike qualities in my life. Do the complete work. And let me share the good news in world that may not be ready or willing to receive it. Open the eyes of those I know and love.
Pastor Jonathan Edwards wrote this great resolution all of us could make: “Resolved, when I fear misfortunes and adversities, to examine whether ~ have done my duty, and resolve to do it; and let it be just as providence orders it, I will as far as I can, be concerned about nothing but my duty and my sin.” June 9, and July 13, 1723.
