In God We Trust

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.
O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer;
And by night, but I have no rest.
Yet You are holy,
O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
In You our fathers trusted;
They trusted and You delivered them.
To You they cried out and were delivered;
In You they trusted and were not disappointed. Psalm 22:1-5

There are moments and even seasons when a believer may not sense God is present with them. Circumstances can cause us to believe He has forsaken us. I can’t tell you why, but I can tell you it is the experience of many wonderful saints. Jesus felt this way and cried out in the agony of disfellowship with the Father. But, David rightly reminds us in his Psalm that those who trust in God will ultimately never be disappointed. I love what the disciples replied to Jesus, when the shoe was on the other foot and He asked them “will you too leave me?”. They said “Lord to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life.”

Have I put my full faith and trust in God? How would others know? When have I endured through seasons of spiritual dryness or the feelings of being alone and abandoned?

God, thank you that You are trustworthy and do fulfill Your promise to never really leave or forsake us. Jesus said so. I found that to be true. I am praying this morning for the three families that lost a teenage son. I imagine them will feel as David wrote. When they cry out “why have You forsaken me”… meet them in their deepest need.
