Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
I used to watch a cartoon called “Mighty Mouse”. He often would come in the nick of time to save everyone- and say/sing with a loud melodic voice ‘here I come to save the day!’!
Christians hold onto a promise that one day Jesus will return. It will be a surprise to many people in the world (even religious people). It’s a day of rescue for persecuted Christians and a day of recompense for those who are harming them. This was the hope the apostle Paul offered the believers in Thessaloniki. As we await the eventual uniting with Christ, we have the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit with us. Ultimate salvation from the penalty sins is ours already, as well as the hope of heaven. Now, that’s encouraging!
How aware am I of the suffering of other Christians around the world? How grateful am I for the protections I experience?
God, thank you for your saving work in my life. I pray you guard the lives of believers in hostile places around the world.
