The rich man’s wealth is his fortress,
The ruin of the poor is their poverty.
The wages of the righteous is life,
The income of the wicked, punishment. Proverbs 10:15-16
Giving our lives to God is the only safe investment… and it pays eternal dividends. In a beautiful set of couplets, wise king Solomon focuses for a moment on the outcome of our investments. He says that a person who pursues wealth will have a fortress. Sadly, the poor (at the other end of the spectrum) will live in poverty. The idea here implies a person who neglects to do what is necessary to earn a living. For those who desire righteousness, can expect life. Not just physical life, but the higher (spiritual / zoe) life. How awesome is it to be paid in the currency of “life”… for simply pursuing what is right?
How about me? Where do I invest my time, energy, passions, and money? How important is righteousness?
God, as this day begins in Del Rio, Texas with these men on our mission trip- Help me be the man You want me to be. Work in us and through us in great power. Do miracles beyond our ability as you amplify our efforts. May we love someone in Jesus name and be Your righteous servants today.
