America, Rest and Relax!

Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it. For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Hebrews 4:1-2

A man’s soul will not be at rest until he has put his full faith and trust in the Savior. It is then, by obedience to Jesus’ words and way, that he discovers a life described in the Old Testament as ‘the promised land’. Faith and obedience are the subject of the author of Hebrews’ fourth chapter. Even that first generation of people who entered into the promised land, didn’t experience the ‘rest’ of God- because they failed to exercise simple faith and obedience. So it is with us, that as we rely upon Him and humbly obey His commands (and they are not burdensome), we find a deep satisfying rest for our soul.

Do I really trust that God loves me, sent His Son as a propitiation for my sin, and that He will return for me one day? Are there any areas of disobedience in my life?

God, as this day begins- I pray for those who find themselves worried and without ‘soul level’ rest. Draw them close. Remind them they are loved and You care for us. You cause the rain to fall on the just and the unjust. Would you use me this week to meet the practical needs of older adults who may feel they cannot go out of their homes. I am grateful that my small faith (the size of a mustard seed), coupled with simple obedience is enough to enter the promised land.
