So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them. Deuteronomy 30:19-20
Before Moses gave his final words to the children of Israel, he told them to choose life. Its amazing how many people simply choose the things that hurt them. The band One Republic has a song that illustrates our situation and our deception:
I feel something so right, By doing the wrong thing
And I feel something so wrong, By doing the right thing
I couldn’t lie, couldn’t lie, couldn’t lie
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive
That final line is where most people live today in our self-gratification society that wants ever new experiences and entertainment even to our own detriment. But God wants better for us. This is why we need the Word of God and the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit of God.
I feel differently. I feel more alive than ever each time I choose God’s will and ways. My spirit is quickened, I notice God’s miraculous working in situations, and I sense His presence and joy. The only thing that makes me feel alive is living each day with Christ and for Him.
God, as this day begins, I pray for anyone far from you that is still trying to find satisfaction in temporary pleasure and the deception of worldly lusts. Rescue them. Draw many to worship You today. Set them free as you have set me free! Use me to help others choose life.
