Even The Losers

TomPettyAt one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3-8

Tom Petty’s song “Louisiana Rain” has the lyrics ‘even the losers, get lucky sometimes’. That’s my case for sure. I once was foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved to just living for pleasures. In a word, I a was ‘worldly’ and lost as well. But something great happened. The kindness of God changed me. The apostle Paul concludes his letter to Titus with the reminder that God changes people. Not because we deserve it, but because of His great mercy and love. He says the Holy Spirit of God is involved in renewing us through a process of sanctification (washing of rebirth). In doing so, we become co-heirs with Christ and possess the hope of eternal life! Truly amazing. Even the losers, get lucky sometimes.

Is this an accurate way to describe my life? Yes. How has my heart and character changed because of the love of God? Am I extending the same hope to others?

God, this will be an interesting day. I pray I can be a help to pastor Daryl. Bless him today in all he is doing. What a blessed man. In my finance meeting this the morning, help us work with wisdom and insight. I praise You that your promise is to provide all we need according the riches in Christ. And then, when we help Vivian today move. I can tell she is emotional. Let Rich, my son, and I be a blessing and sign of Your affection to her.
